My Guest-Post Research

I've been doing some reading on the net, trying to find ways to promote the blogs I've worked so very hard on building. I have hundreds of well-written, good sized articles which provide step-by-step help, and solid information to readers.

my popular blog
I don't think my blogs are doing the best they can for me. I think they should have a higher Google rating because many of my articles are now in the first page of Google searches.  Consequently, I've been trying to find out what else I can do - with my limited technical skill and time - to correct this. The term that pops up in almost every article I've read is 'guest posting' Guest posting is supposed to be the current big thing - the top rated activity to widen your readership and build solid back-links. So I did a few to prove its worth!

I sacrificed the already limited time I have to spend on my own blogs to create interesting articles on some highly-rated sites in my niche. I thought long and hard about what would fit in nicely with their themes and applied to write for them.
I knew I wasn't being paid for my time or effort. However, I felt that the exposure and back-links I'd heard so much about would be definitely worth the sacrifice. You'd be pleased to know I was successful and here are the wonderful fruits of my labour. The first two are essential blogging tips/information, the third one is mainly to do with writers and Facebook layouts.  The last is for fun. Let me know what you think. I'll give these a month to stew, then I'll come back to you with my findings. Stick around and subscribe to this blog if you haven't already done so. Wish me luck!

How To Create An Adsense Channel For Your Blog

Today, as a continuing part of my Blogger Tutorials for newbies, I want to look at Adsense channels and why they're vital to bloggers across the board.

You've just started your new blog. You chose the best possible name for your site. Then diligently did your research on domain name availability to get the most suitable available title. You added all the highly recommended gadgets, then set out to write knock-out posts. You signed up for Google adsense and waited to start earning, but unfortunately only pennies dribbled in. How do you know which ad units are earning you cash and which ones are only taking up valuable advertising space on your site? This is where channels come in.

We all know by now that some Google adsense ads perform better than others. Picture ones earn you more money, for example. In addition, the position of your ad either catches the attention of your readers, or goes unnoticed. Adsense allows you to personalise the appearance of each ad. You can choose your own size, look, font and the colour of literally every part of your ad box.

Creating channels helps you to have even more control over your ads. With channels you're able to track which ads on your sites perform best of all and which ones attract no clicks whatsoever. Armed with this crucial information, you're able to maximise your Google Adsense earnings by recreating the best performing ad boxes on your other sites, and/or by deleting the hangers on. You should create a channel for each of the ad units on your sites. Here's how:
  • Sign in to your Google account. You would’ve had to create one if you have a Blogger blog.

  • Choose ‘Adsense’

  • You will be taken to a page (like the one below) where you can view your google adsense account.

  • At the top of the page the table says Reports, Adsense Setup, My Account and Resources.

  • Choose Adsense Setup (white heading).

  • Then Channels (in the blue row) under Adsense Setup.

  • Add a new custom  channel. (You can create url channels later on).

  • Name your channel precisely. You may want to say something like ‘top banner’ 'large side ad' etc, with the name the blog. This is not only for you to track the most profitable ads and the best positions for them. Advertisers will also be shown these names you create.

  • Tick the ‘targeting’ box. (This means that your blog will be shown to advertisers as a domain which is interested in promoting their ads.

  • Ads appear on - tick homepage.

  • Add channel and save.

  • You're done!
